Next Chapter: The Simplicity AI Bed Controller introduced QLink™, Quartet’s encrypted wireless messaging service, enabling Simplicity AI to control bed functions without a cable connection or reliance on the customer’s home network.

Infrared control reaches more rooms

As users added televisions and IR-controlled devices throughout the home, the Quartet IR Extender enabled Simplicity ECUs to send IR commands to remote locations, allowing users to control devices beyond the ECU’s location.

Digital radio improves remote ECU control

Quartet replaced older analog radio control with digital radio technology, improving clarity and reducing static. QDR II later advanced the platform with DECT-based audio technology for stronger range, clearer communication, and more reliable remote ECU control.

Visual switch access through eye-gaze control

The Quartet Visual Switch gave users another way to operate a Switch ECU by using eye-gaze control to select visual buttons on a computer. Configurable button sizes and visual feedback helped make switch control more accessible for people who could not rely on voice or a physical switch.

Visual configuration takes shape

The QIC GUI made Insteon setup clearer and easier for installers, replacing cumbersome menu-based configuration with a visual tool for setup, testing, backup, and directory management. It also helped move Quartet toward the more visual setup tools that would later shape Simplicity AI.

Patented infrared learning upgrade

As remote controls became more complex, the Quartet Infrared Controller provided an upgrade path for older ECUs, enabling users to continue controlling the devices around them with Quartet’s patented infrared learning technology. Liberty points toward the future

Liberty explored a more software-driven, configurable ECU platform that pointed toward the future of Quartet’s environmental control technology. Although not manufactured as a production product, the work helped lay the foundation for what would later become Simplicity AI.
